Today, the Treasure Island Mobility Management Agency (TIMMA), together with the San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA) and the Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA) celebrated the launch of the bike share program and the completion of mobility hub facilities at the Ferry Terminal including new transit shelters and public restrooms.

"I am thrilled to welcome visitors and residents alike to enjoy new public restrooms, transit shelters and bikeshare on Treasure Island - TIMMA, together with our partners at TIDA and the SFCTA, is proud to launch 7 bikeshare stations on Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island and to offer key amenities at our ferry terminal mobility hub," said Treasure Island Mobility Management Agency Chair Matt Dorsey. "’Whether you’re visiting friends and family, catching the views at Panorama Park, or accessing the bus or ferry to downtown, getting around our island community is now easier and more enjoyable than ever."

"The launch of the bike share program and completion of ferry terminal enhancements mark an exciting milestone for Treasure Island, ” said San Francisco County Transportation Authority Chair Myrna Melgar. “The Transportation Authority is proud to help fund and deliver electric bikes and a modern ferry terminal, transforming affordable and sustainable transportation around the island and connections to San Francisco’s mainland and beyond.”

TIMMA is charged with implementing Treasure Island’s comprehensive Transportation Program to help meet the island's growing transportation needs with a goal of achieving over 50% transit usage as part of a highly accessible, transit-oriented community for residents, workers and visitors. The program called Treasure Island LINKS includes new electric ferry services, on-Island shuttle services, bike share systems and future congestion management via tolls. A mobility wallet is planned for accessing affordability benefits and travel rewards. Bike share is the first service to launch and will be followed by electric ferry service  in late 2027.

Seven new Lyft Bike stations with 35 electric bikes will give residents and visitors a new way to get around the islands. The Transportation Authority has approved funding for an additional 20 bikes that will be delivered in future phases as demand warrants. The stations have been installed at various locations on Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island:

  • Ferry terminal (two stations)
  • Cityside Park
  • Island Cove Market and Community Center
  • Treasure Island Playground and Athletic Fields
  • Gateview Avenue between Northpoint Drive and Gateview Court
  • Panorama Park

Members of the public can sign up for bike share memberships through Lyft Bike or by calling 855-480-2453. Lyft Bike’s “Bike Share for All” program provides discounts for eligible low-income residents in the Bay Area who qualify through CalFresh, SFMTA Lifeline Pass, Medi-Cal, or PG&E CARE. Members must be 18 years of age. Lyft Bike also offers prepaid card payment options - new riders that are eligible for Bikeshare for All can subscribe to the $5 annual membership with a prepaid card online, in app, or in person. Treasure Island Bike Share is funded by the Treasure Island Development Authority, Treasure Island Mobility Management Agency, Bay Area Air District, San Francisco County Transportation Authority, and Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

TIMMA also celebrated the delivery of its Treasure Island Ferry Terminal Enhancements Project, which provides new bus transit shelters and public restrooms for an improved customer experience at the ferry terminal. The terminal acts as a mobility hub, connecting residents and visitors with ferry and bus services to San Francisco, planned on-island shuttles, and walking and biking paths to the Bay Bridge’s east span multi-use path for cyclists and pedestrians. The enhancements at the Ferry Terminal provide fully ADA accessible public restrooms and passenger transit shelters that improve comfort and weather protection for seniors, families, and persons with disabilities. The Ferry Terminal Enhancements project was funded by grants from the Federal Highway Administration, state Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program, TIMMA capital program and Treasure Island Community Development design funds.
Future programs are planned for Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island as part of Treasure Island LINKS. TIMMA is working with San Francisco Bay Ferry to launch public ferry service with a larger, all electric vessel next fall. An on-island shuttle will expand transit options to get around the islands and eventually serve the East Bay. For more information, please visit timma.org.
